What we are experiencing is a very interesting time for investment in the semiconductor sector, so that 2017 is revealing a record year for this field.
The SEMI Association, which groups manufacturers of semiconductor devices, has estimated $ 55 billion in ongoing investments in the industry for 2017.
It is the highest figure recorded so far and represents a 37% increase over 2016. In 2018, investments for 58 billion are expected, with a further 5% growth.
Leader in the matter is the Samsung group, which is investing $ 17 billion.
Among the recipient countries of investment is South Korea with 19.5 billion dollars, followed by China with 12.5 billion.
30 billion are due to memory makers and 18 to founders. The remaining 7 billion are divided into microprocessors, logical and discrete circuits.
