Jean Claude Juncker as president of the European Commission has recently delivered his State of the European Union speech and his vision for Europe’s future. Ceced, the home appliance industry association in Europe, has welcomed the announcement of a renewed industrial strategy for Europe, recognising thereby the essential role of EU industry. “Manufacturers – said Ceced in a official note – appreciate Juncker’s call to strengthen EU industry in an era of increased globalisation but also EU’s support to adapt it to new challenges linked with sustainability and digitalisation. Developing innovative and efficient appliances, encouraging sustainable choices and behaviours, improving EU citizens comfort thanks to connectivity and smartness are at the core of Home Appliance 2025, the sector’s vision for 2025. Freedom to conduct businesses and to innovate combined with a coherent stable regulatory framework are key to reach those goals that will ultimately deliver economic and social growth”.

Paolo Falcioni, Ceced Director-General.

Besides, Ceced Director-General Paolo Falcioni underlined the importance of balancing the market and legislation approach when it comes to generating sustainable growth in Europe: “we need a more balanced approach between the merit of the markets and the merit of legislation. It is innovation encouraged by market forces that drives industry. Creating the conditions that encourage innovation is vitally important. Clear signals from policy makers are needed to help this process along”. “To just take out our industrial sector: imagine 500 million EU citizens equipped with the latest energy efficient, resource efficient and increasingly smart-connected appliances at home – added Falcioni -. Each one enjoying a sustainable lifestyle while supporting sustainable growth. It is a vision we are striving for. It is worth supporting”.
