Remedia starts positively 2018 thanks to the excellent results obtained last year. According to the estimates, in 2017 the Italian consortium managed 90,000 tons of electronic waste, an increase of 34% compared to 2016 and a growth of over 400% compared to 2008. The 2018 year marks an important milestone: the first 10 years of the consortium’s activities. In a decade, the consortium managed a total of almost 500,000 tonnes of WEEE with an estimated economic benefit for Italy, in terms of savings on raw material imports, of at least 140 million euros.
Analyzing in detail the results recorded by Remedia in 2017, the domestic WEEE amounted to 73,200 tons (+26% compared to 2016), while the professional WEEE (produced by companies and public organizations), amounted to 6,900 tons. Finally, 9,900 tons of portable, industrial and vehicle batteries and accumulators were managed (+186% compared to the previous year).
Data on the 5 categories of domestic WEEE managed by Remedia show an increase in the R3 group (TVs and monitors): almost 36,000 tons collected, +32% compared to 2016. The same percentage increase also for the R4 group (consumer electronics, IT and small appliances) with more than 12,000 tons. The R2 group (white major domestic appliances) grows with more than 6,800 tons and an increase of about 23% compared to 2016, while the R1 (refrigeration and air conditioning) and R5 (light sources) groups registered respectively more than 18,000 tons (+12%) and 67 tons (+29%) collected in 2017.
