UK: the TCG market grew by 5.8% in the second quarter of 2018

According to GfK Temax, in the second quarter of 2018 the technical consumer goods market grew by 5.8%, compared to the same quarter in 2017. In Q2 2018 there was a large variance in the sector growth ranging from -11.7% to +11.7%.

Here are the growing products:
Major Domestic Appliances
Drink chillers achieved the highest growth in the category, despite it being only a very slight growth.

Small Domestic Appliances
The sector as a whole had slight growth, despite the majority of categories having negative growth.
Vacuum cleaners were the “winners” of this quarter.

Consumer Electronics
PTV’s are responsible for the majority of the growth in the Consumer Electronics sector.

Photography
Sport optics are the only products to buck the negative trend within this category.

Information Technology
The Information Technology sector grew this quarter, primarily led by mobile computing and desk computing.

Telecommunications
Phablets highly impressive year on year growth led to overall growth within the Telecommunications sector.

Office Equipment and Consumables
The majority of categories within the sector showed growth with coated paper and document shredders standing out on this front.

Here are the declining products:
Major Domestic Appliances
The MDA sector showed negative growth as a whole, which was due to the majority of categories having declined. Even the few with growth, only showed very slight growth this quarter.

Small Domestic Appliances
Hair stylers and food preparation struggled this quarter.

Consumer Electronics
Once again, the majority of categories showed a decline in revenue this quarter.

Photography
Photo sector in total shrank, due to negative growth in the digital camera, imaging accessories and interchangeable lenses categories.

Information Technology
Docking/mini speakers struggled this quarter with revenues dropping significantly.

Telecommunications
Smart mobile phones once again struggled, making it the fourth quarter in a row where they have been the worst performing category in the sector.

Office Equipment & Consumables
The Office sector once again struggled with negative overall trend. This was primarily down to its high revenue categories having negative growth. Such as laser cartridges and ink jet cartridges.
