A new point of reference for Italian appliance manufacturers and not only: UL has inaugurated a center of excellence for testing in Carugate, specialized in appliances, lighting and HVAC. The center is spread over 2,500 square meters and is located a few meters away from the UL headquarters. “We needed to expand,” says Alessio Dellanoce, Senior Business Development Manager and Global Commercial Leader “and when this building became available we immediately thought of using it”.

Marco Crosignani (UL), Todd Avery (U.S. Embassy), Todd Denison (UL), Luca Maggioni (Carugate Major), Marcello Manca (UL), Brian Ferriol (UL).

Thus, a European-level hub for UL was created for the various types of safety tests, energy efficiency and performance. Numerous categories of products tested: home appliances, commercial appliances of the HO.RE.CA channel, gas appliances and ovens, as well as luminaires, heating and air conditioning.

In the new spaces, dedicated to combustion equipment, you can test up to 43 different types of gas: a “detail” that is the flagship of the center and makes the Carugate the first UL laboratory in Europe dedicated to gas equipment .

Todd Denison, vice president and general manager of the appliances division, HVAC and lighting of UL

To confirm the value of this operation for UL are the words of Todd Denison, vice president and general manager of the appliances division, HVAC and lighting of UL: : “With this new center of excellence we are further expanding our testing and certification capabilities in Europe to best meet the demands of the market. The creation of a European center that meets all the testing and certification needs of the AHL sector allows us to offer local quality performance to European manufacturers and simplifies the process, providing test and certification services for a single source and in one context”.

To Marcello Manca, Vice President of UL’s government and industrial affairs for Europe, it is up to the task of summarizing the stages, acquisitions and expansions that have allowed UL to become from the foundation of UL Italy, in 1998 , today a reference point of great competence and experience in the world of testing, with a staff of over 450 people, highly skilled engineers and technicians.

The renovations of the new laboratory have also taken into account the measures to be taken to ensure maximum energy savings and employee well-being: artificial lights automatically calibrated in relation to the external light, sound-absorbing materials to allow silence to work even in open spaces, glazed spaces that link the laboratories with the offices to visual connections.

Offices in which an international team works, specialized in the various certifications and regulations in different parts of the world. There are still many free desks: there are other recruitments to strengthen the staff and therefore strengthen the service to producers even more.
