In this solution, integrating the fixture dimension check with the measurement system expands the gauge’s capabilities and allows for more effective inspections of complex or hard-to-reach areas

In highly automated production lines, especially in the automotive and aerospace sectors, dimensional inspection is essential for ensuring process continuity, component compliance, and rapid response in the event of deviations. In this context, the checking fixture remains a key tool because it enables checks directly on the shop floor, providing immediate, repeatable, and clear feedback. It does not replace laboratory metrology, but complements it by bringing inspection closer to production, where response time can directly affect product quality and process stability. A checking fixture for dimensional inspection must guarantee not only accurate measurement, but also structural consistency over time. The effectiveness of an inspection fixture depends not only on the measuring elements, but also on the structural quality of the frame. The frame is not simply a support: it is a true metrological component that determines geometric consistency, long-term stability, and positioning accuracy. When tolerances are tight and production cycles are intensive, rigidity, reduced torsion, and manufacturing precision become essential requirements. This is particularly true when developing a precision fixture for repeatable dimensional inspection, where every structural element contributes to the reliability of the final result.

Mecline® profiles for high-performance structures

Starting from these principles, Meccania has developed the Mecline® range for high-performance load-bearing structures. Thanks to a fully equipped workshop handling fabrication, assembly, testing, and final inspection, the company maintains direct control over every stage of production and over the quality of the finished structure. The PA series profiles are designed to create more advanced structures than standard industrial profiles. A key advantage is the excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio, particularly important in medium and large frames. The enlarged 12 mm groove allows stronger connections and high-strength fastening systems, while compatibility with standard systems used in the Kanya/Meccania environment also supports mixed configurations. The range includes different cross-sections to meet various structural needs, from compact frames to heavy-duty solutions. In addition, 5-axis CNC machining enables dedicated processing, which is especially valuable in a metrology fixture for dimensional inspection, where robustness, structural continuity, and geometric precision must be carefully balanced. These characteristics make the Mecline® range suitable for advanced inspection systems and for the development of a custom checking fixture for automotive parts, where repeatability and stability are critical throughout the production cycle.

Frame for a dimensional inspection fixture made from HA aluminum extrusions, also available with a special matte black anodized finish: a finish that protects the surface and reduces glare during measurement applications

HA profiles for the most demanding applications

For more demanding applications, HA profiles provide even tighter dimensional control thanks to precision machining of surfaces and ends. This improves assembly accuracy, reduces adjustment during installation, and increases the stability of reference points. HA profiles are also available with a matte black anodized finish, which protects the surface and reduces reflections during optical or scanning-based measurements. Full compatibility with the standard range also makes it possible to build hybrid structures, using HA profiles only where higher precision is required. Frame performance also depends on the coherence between sections, connections, machining, and accessories. For this reason, PVS® and MVS® connections are an integral part of the Mecline® philosophy, contributing to structural positioning accuracy. The possibility of CNC-machined seats for guides or functional surfaces allows the frame to become an active part of the inspection system. The process is completed through assembly and final testing on surface plates with certified measuring arms, verifying compliance with required tolerances. Meccania also develops integrated solutions with linear motion systems, including axes and modules with belt, rack, and ball screw drives, creating technical platforms that combine precision, modularity, and future scalability. In this way, every checking fixture, inspection fixture, and metrology fixture can be developed as a reliable technical platform for demanding industrial applications.
