U.S. manufacturing: shipments of electrical equipment, appliances and components increased by 3.8 percent in January

According to the data published by U.S. Census Bureau, new orders for manufactured durable goods in January 2015 increased by $6.5 billion or 2.8 percent to $236.1 billion compared to December 2014. Considering not seasonally adjusted data, new orders in January increased by 1.6 percent compared to the same month of 2014 ($209,812us manufacturing appliances million versus $206,441 million). Category including electrical equipment, appliances and components presents a decrease in new orders: in January 2015 they totaled $10,491 million, -3.4 percent compared to the previous month (seasonally adjusted data). Besides, the fall was equal to -0.8 percent if we compare January 2015 ($9,873 million) to January 2014 ($9,954 million), analyzing not seasonally adjusted data.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in January 2015 decreased by $2.7 billion or 1.1 percent to $245.1 billion compared to December 2014. However, shipments increased by 3.1 percent, considering January 2015 versus January 2014 (respectively $217,427 million and $210,866 million – not seasonally adjusted data). As regards to electrical equipment, appliances and components, shipments decreased by 0.4 percent in January 2015 compared to December 2014 ($10,675 million versus $10,713 million – seasonally adjusted data), while shipments increased by 3.8 percent if we consider January 2015 versus the same month of 2014 (respectively $9,510 million and $9,162 million – not seasonally adjusted data).
