The Spanish TCG market registered a positive trend in the second quarter

The Spanish technical consumer goods market returned to positive territory in Q2 2016 and ended the period 1% higher than in Q2 2015, with revenue of 3.2 million euro. The small domestic appliances sector grew by double digits, and the major domestic appliances and consumer electronics sectors also did well. Only the information technology and photography sectors registered falls. Here are the data published by GfK Temax.

Major domestic appliances
The Spanish MDA sector rose by 3.7% in the second quarter of 2016, compared to Q2 2015. Turnover of the quarter was 601 million euro. Sales in the cooking products and tumble dryers segments increased up by 6.9 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively. The recovery in the Spanish building sector contributed to these results. Overall, there was higher growth in value terms (rather than in units). This was due to price increases as the demand for better products increased.

Small domestic appliances
Revenue total of SDA sector in Q2 was 223 million euro, a rise of 10.2% compared to the same period in 2015.The two largest segments – food preparation equipment and vacuum cleaners – both posted double-digit growth. Juicers/presses and liquidizers were the star performers in Q2 2016 as the demand for healthy products grew.

Consumer electronics
With a revenue of 450 million, the CE sector was 3.6% higher in Q2 2016, compared to the second quarter of 2015.Demand for panel TVs increased (up by 5.4%) due to the Uefa Euro 2016 football championship. Sales of accessories also improved, with TV mounts and soundbars in positive territory.

Photography
In Q2 2016, the sector declined by 6%, compared to the second quarter of 2015, and garnered 73 million euro in revenue. The only growth was registered in the interchangeable lens segment, while sales of digital cameras fell by 10.2 percent. Wider screens in smartphones have affected the negative trend in the photography sector.

Information technology
There was a fall of 3.3% in the IT sector in Q2 2016, compared to the same quarter in 2015. Revenue was reported as 762 million. The poor performance in the mediatablets segment (down by 9.9%) affected the sector. However, the largest product group – mobile computing products – showed a small rise in Q2 2016. This was largely due to some aggressive sales promotions. Product group monitors was the best-performing segment, rising by 8.8%, compared to Q2 2015.

Telecommunications
A stable quarter was experienced with an increase of just 0.3%, compared to Q2 2015.The core wearables category increased dramatically (up by 137.1%), but remains a relatively small segment. More brands entered the TC market which provoked some excellent offers and competitive prices.

Office equipment and consumables
In Q2 2016, the OE market in Spain increased – but only by 0.9% – compared to Q2 2015.Sales of inkjet cartridges rose by 10.3% and printing devices (especially laser models) also improved – up by 6.1%, compared to Q2 2015.
