Slight growth in the German TCG market

The German technical consumer goods market ended the fourth quarter of 2016 with revenue of 17.2 billion euro, which represented a slight increase of 0.5 percent, compared to Q4 2015. Nevertheless, the small domestic appliances sector managed a solid increase in the same period. For the whole of 2016, the TCG market registered a decline in revenue of 0.9 percent, down to 58.2 billion euro. Here are the data published by GfK Temax.

Major Domestic Appliances
Overall, the major domestic appliances sector registered positive development in 2016. The microwave ovens were the sales driver in the third quarter of the last year, while freezers presented a slight sales decline in 2016.

Small Domestic Appliances
Small domestic appliances presented the strongest growth rates in Q4 and in 2016. Vacuum cleaners market grows, powered by handstick-, wet & dry-vacuum cleaners and robots. However, hairstylers registered a negative development, especially due to sales decline in the curler-segment.

Consumer Electronics
Consumer electronics market saw robust sales development in 2016. Positive trend registered the connected audio home systems and smart audio, while sales in the car-entertainment segment declined.

Photography
Overall, the photography sector saw a negative trend both in the fourth quarter and in the full year 2016. However, compact-system-cameras achieved a positive sales development.

Information Technology
Monitor and mobile computing category sales saved the IT hardware market from falling into a greater sales decline. In particular, mediatablet sales registered a double-digit decline.

Telecommunications
Within the telecommunication sector, the core wearables segment reached a strong growth, especially at Christmas season. Health & fitnesstracker and smartwatches drive sales.

Office Equipment & Consumables
Data/video projectors saw a double-digit growth, while multifunctional printing devices and scanners witnessed a single-digit growth. Printers and inkjet cartridges fell by single-digit in comparison to previous year’s fourth quarter.
