As reported by GfK Temax, in the first quarter of 2019 the Russian technical consumer goods market has grown by 9.2 percent, compared to Q1 2018. Telecom is again ahead of all sectors in terms of growth (+15.3%), followed by SDA (+10.9%). All other sectors grew in value, ranging from +2.1% (Photo) to +8.5% (Office Equipment & Consumables).

Here are the growing products:
Major Domestic Appliances
Slim & top loading washing machines segments have slightly grown, partially compensating for the evolution of the full-size segment. Besides, the more premium segments of Cooling like Multi-door & Side by Side continued their growth trend.

Small Domestic Appliances
The segments of handstick vacuum cleaners and robot vacuum cleaners continue to grow. And steam generators remain the main source of development for the garment care. Besides, the most innovative categories of Personal Care like toothbrush rechargeable and hybrid groomers still show the most positive results.

Consumer Electronics
The planned analogue switch over (ASO) is being continued. With the broadcasting of analogue TV signals ending, Russian consumers should either buy new TVs, or to upgrade their old TVs with DVB-T2 supporting set-top boxes (STB) and this is providing significant tailwinds for the sales of both devices.

Information Technology
Mobile computing continue to remain the major market driver, supporting the overall positive result for IT. The storage segment is growing mainly thanks to SSD, and the sales of IT products with gaming features continue to grow. It is especially relevant for monitors, followed by laptops and keying&pointing devices.

Telecommunications
The launch of new models in the medium price segment, accompanied by bundles sales and cashbacks, supported the positive trend for smartphones, the major product category of Telecom. And the core wearables continued the positive trend mostly due to health and fitness trackers.

Office Equipment & Consumables
The sales growth of laser MFD is driving the overall positive result for OE.

Here are the declining products:
Photography
The non-full frame semi-professional mirrorless cameras priced 60-150.000 RUB (segment Enthusiast) is declining in value in spite of the growing demand.

Small Domestic Appliances
Bagged cylinder vacuum cleaners are the only category of vacuum cleaners that shows a decrease in Q1 2019. Besides, LAS/IPL products, which used to be one of the most promising segments in 2018, now show a negative dynamics.

Major Domestic Appliances
Washing machines of the full-size front-loading segment are below the result reached in Q1 2018 both in terms of volume and value, and Door Bottom Freezer Cooling segment is not exceeding the value of Q1 2018.

Information Technology
Memory cards and USB memory were the most shrinking product groups in spite of the growing demand (in units).

Telecommunications
The sales of mobile accessories decreased both in volume and value compared to Q1 2018. GfK Temax explains that this negative trend continues due to non-price competition among the brands. The vendors sell cases in bundle with smartphones. Besides, the category of the power packs shows signs of market saturation, being below Q1 2018 both in value and volume.

Office Equipment and Consumables
The sales for most of OE products are below the value of Q1 2018.
