Italy: trend of the major domestic appliances in 2021

The Findomestic Observatory reports that, according to GfK data, in Italy in the first nine months of 2021 the cooling sector was characterized by a growth of +19.7% (value). Compared to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019, sales are up by 18.2% (value) and 12.5% (volume). An important positive contribution came from the refrigerators, with sales growing in the first nine months of 2021 by 21.1% in value. The sales expansion of the built-in products is much more intense (52.3% in value) compared to the free-standing products (10.2% in value). With regard to the other products in the cooling sector, the substantial stability in sales of the freezers emerges (+0.9%), after the strong increase in 2020 (32.3%). On the other hand, the development of the wine cabinets segment has not stopped, which in the first nine months of 2021 recorded an increase of more than 125% in value. The washing segment recorded a growth of 22.6% in value. Compared to 2019 levels, sales are almost 15% higher. For the washing machines, sales increased in the first nine months of 2021 by 12.6% in value and 6.6% in volume. More marked increases for dryers (38.1% in value, 36.5% in volume) and for dishwashers (33.1% in value and 36.5% in volume) were registered. Finally, the cooking sector had positive dynamics (55.4% in value, 49.3% in volume). The performance of hobs and hoods was the best, with increases of 64.5% and 70.2% respectively in the first nine months of 2021. There was an intense sales growth also for the ovens/cookers sector (approximately +44% in value, after the positive results in 2020).
