U.S. Census Bureau’s report on durable goods in January

As reported by U.S. Census Bureau (Advance Report on Durable Goods Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories and Orders January 2014), new orders for manufactured durable goods in January decreased $2.2 billion or 1.0 percent to $225.0 billion. This decrease, down three of the last four months, followed a 5.3 percent December decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 1.1 percent. Shipments of manufactured durable goods in January, down two consecutive months, decreased $0.9 billion or 0.4 percent to $232.3 billion. This followed a 1.8 percent December decrease. Machinery, down following five consecutive monthly increases, drove the decrease, $0.9 billion or 2.6 percent to $34.5 billion. In regard to the category “electrical equipment, appliances and components”, considering the seasonally adjusted data, the shipments have reached 10,311 million dollars (+1,4% compared to 10,172 million dollars in December 2013), while new orders decreased by -2,1% (10,536 million dollars in January 2014 vs 10,760 million dollars in December 2013). Besides, considering not seasonally adjusted data, the shipments arrived at 9,339 million dollars in January 2014 respect to 9,290 million dollars in January 2013 (+0,5%), while the new orders arrived at 10,250 million dollars respect to 9,854 million dollars in January 2013 (+4%).
