As reported by Abinee (Brazilian association of electric and electronic industry), in January 2014 Brazilian exports of electrical and electronic products totaled $ 494.2 million, +1.4% compared to the same month of last year ($ 487.4 million). The data show the significant growth of exports of goods GTD (generation, transmission and distribution of electricity), which reached $ 85.3 million (+123.1%). This result was mainly by increments of 397% in exports of transformers, which increased from $ 10 million in January 2013 to $ 50 million in January 2014, and +279% in foreign sales of electrical generators ($ 18 million). Exports of electrical and electronics components totaled $ 227.4 million, 46% of the total. This result was 0.6% above that achieved in January 2013 ($ 226.1 million). Besides, the export of domestic appliances reached $ 18.5 million in January 2014, -32% compared to January 2013 ($ 27.2 million).
Imports of electrical and electronic products in January 2014 totaled $ 3.87 billion, +8.2% compared to January 2013 ($ 3.57 billion). Of this total, $ 2.3 billion refer to imports of electrical and electronic components, which grew by 19.7% compared to January 2013 ($ 1.9 billion). Among them there are the three main imported products: components for telecommunications (59%), semiconductors (+19%) and components for informatics (+8%), which together totaled $ 1.47 billion, which means 64% of imports of components and 38% of the total. Import of domestic appliances grew by 13%, from $ 167.1 million in January 2013 to $ 188.8 million in January 2014.
