The Italian-French Group STMicroelectronics, biggest European producer of semiconductors, is starting a programme of reorganization and reduction of its operation costs. This is due to the negative trend of sales in the third 2014 quarter, with a downturn of the global turnover by 6.3% versus the corresponding 2013 period. The goal to be achieved within the third 2015 quarter is the reduction of operating costs by about 100 million US dollars. Concerning this, some divisions will be merged and some productions, deemed secondary, will be suppressed while the number of employees will be reduced by 450 units worldwide.
