The optical-grade liquid silicone does not discolour and does not lose the transparency with the passing of time or the exposure to heat or ultraviolet rays; besides, it is lighter than glass and most of other thermoplastic materials; among the several advantages, it is very resistant to scratches and to mechanical stresses.
