The challenge on which manufacturing companies of dishwashing are focusing can be summarized in three aspects: the best exploitation of the inner space; users’ possibility of designing a “tailored” washing by setting specific washing parameters and options that permit to save water, electricity and time; the Wi-Fi connection for control and management. In this research scenario sensors lord it.

Whirlpool has translated its research dedicated to the smart dishwasher into the dishwasher range 6th Sense PowerClean with PowerDry. “The 6th Sense PowerClean Pro technology of the new Whirlpool dishwashers is equipped with smart sensors detecting the filth level and automatically suiting the washing cycle: the 28 enhanced rear jets can reach efficaciously the entire washing area, optimizing resources” explains Andrea Riggio, Marketing Manager Whirlpool Group and Indesit Group. With the 6th Sense technology, it is possible to save up to 50% of energy, water and time. The second step concerns drying. “Thanks to PowerDry and the programme 1 hour Wash and Dry, it is also possible to have washed and dried kitchenware in only one hour: this allows saving up to 20% more of energy, consuming just 6 litres of water in some models”. And “the new dishwashers are designed to grant the utmost loading flexibility, succeeding in obtaining 30% of additional space at each washing and offering a single load for a bigger kitchenware quantity”.

The highest flexibility in the washing programming and management allows, in the case of Bosch, calibrating the needs of water, electricity and time consumptions according to the various uses. In the Series 8/model SMS88TI03E, the load sensor AquaSensor adjusts the water use and washing parameters according to the type and degree of filth and the water turbidity level, determined by the presence of food or detergent residues. The IntensiveZone option provides for a higher water pressure and temperature in the lower rack for the washing of very dirty pots and pans. With the VarioSpeed Plus option, it is possible to wash and to dry a complete kitchenware load in a time reduced up to even 66%. The Activity Purity Plus option sanitizes thanks to the anti-bacteria cleaning with temperatures up to 70 °C while washing, performed for about 10 minutes.
