Positive trend in the Portuguese appliances market


According to GfK Temax, the technical consumer goods market in Portugal registered an improved performance in Q4 2016 compared to the same quarter in 2015: up by 5.6 percent, with revenue of 819 million euro. The major domestic appliances sector registered an increase of 5.4%, while the small domestic appliances sector grew by 6.9%.

Major Domestic Appliances
Tumble dryers recorded a double digit increase, the fastest growing segment in the major domestic appliances sector. Besides, built-in appliances performed well but didn’t gain market share in the fourth quarter.

Small Domestic Appliances
There was a strong performance of seasonal climate related products throughout the year as the growth in SDA sector accelerated in the last quarter, making it quite a positive year. Bread makers lost their position compared to other kitchen appliances like food processors with heating function, while the steam cleaners and other home care products performed clearly below the total SDA market.

Consumer Electronics
In the consumer electronics sector, the potentials of the multiroom concept have contributed to increase significantly the market for loudspeakers and docking/mini speakers.

Despite the drop of demand for digital cameras, consumers are now looking for new interchangeable lenses to give their cameras a new life.

Information Technology
With new resolutions, formats and features, consumers are looking to purchase new monitors for their computers.

As consumers invested more in smarpthones, the mobile enhancements market grew. On the other hand, demand for phablets decreased because it seems consumers are not going for the bigger displays.

Office Equipment & Consumables
In the printing devices market, the laser products continue to show a significant growth in a market that is currently leaded by the Inkjet technology.
