Ecolight collected almost 17,000 tons of smartphones, blenders, tablets and hair dryers from the ecological islands located in Italy and from the retailers. In 2017, the consortium increased its volumes by almost 6% compared to the previous year, confirming an important action especially as regards the collection of WEEE belonging to the R4 group, ie small domestic appliances and consumer electronics. The commitment of Ecolight in 2017 has focused above all on the management of small electronic waste: more than 75% of what has been collected belongs to this group, and the consortium has also activated a series of services to facilitate citizens and retailers in conferring and correctly collect this type of waste. ā€œDuring 2017 – said Giancarlo Dezio, general director of Ecolight – our campaign for the diffusion of WEEE Eco-Islands continued: smart bins placed mainly near the retail stores where it is possible to confer smartphones and battery chargers, remote controls and small appliancesā€. Considering also refrigerators and ovens, monitors, televisions and light bulbs, on the whole the consortium arrived last year to manage more than 25,000 tons of electronic waste with a capillary and efficient action.
