Sharp acquired 100% of Skytec UMC

Sharp has acquired 100% of its affiliate Skytec Universal Media Corporation (UMC). With an initial 56.7% stake, Sharp completes now the company’s acquisition and takes another important step towards growing its business in Europe. Through the acquisition of Skytec UMC and its factory in Poland, Sharp will improve its production capacity in Europe, from the distribution channels to the sales. The aim is to advance the TV business, as well as the audio, SDA and smartphones sectors in the European market. Sharp is focusing on a global commercial strategy and is continuing the expansion of the 8K+5G and AioT (Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things). “Our strategies are clearly focused on growth – said Kazuhiro Kitamura, CEO of Europe Business & BU President TV Systems of Sharp, who temporarily assumes the responsibility for the activities managed by Skytec UMC -. On the one hand, with the acquisition of Skytec UMC, we want to significantly grow the brand in Europe, and on the other hand, with the expansion of 8K+5G and AIoT, we are moving further in the direction of the smart lifestyle.
