SIAMEZE IDC terminals, proposed by TE Connectivity, interconnect copper and aluminum magnet wires. “Our SIAMEZE insulation displacement (IDC) terminals – the company explains – are engineered for interconnecting copper and aluminum magnet wires, lead wires, and other components. Our SIAMEZE IDC terminal technology eliminates the need to strip the film insulation from copper and aluminum magnet wires and lead wires. Our terminals are available in wire-to-wire, Lead Lok, quick disconnect tabs, posts, pin, and receptacle terminals. Our new IDC terminals enable use with aluminum magnet wire providing design flexibility and potential material cost savings”. As TE highlights, for motor manufacturers there is an increasingly popular trend to move from copper to aluminium magnet wire due to the lower cost and weight of aluminium magnet wire versus copper. TE’s new SIAMEZE terminals for Al magnet wire are designed specifically for use with Al magnet wires. These are the key benefits: it eliminates the need for welding or soldering processes, improving operating and manufacturing efficiencies; space saving size for small motor designs; no pre-stripping of wires needed saving time and labour costs; available in various interconnection options providing design flexibility.
