Polti recently signed an agreement with MADE Competence Center Industry 4.0 in Milan, a digital and sustainable factory that supports manufacturing companies in the transformation path towards Industry 4.0. The object of the collaboration – which in a parallel phase of the project will also include the IoT for some professional lines – is the adoption of the Kaizen method within the production flows, in order to minimize any waste (materials, time, human resources) and reduce costs. The project is part of the path towards sustainability undertaken by Polti: more efficient use of resources, a logic of continuous improvement and structured actions to contrast the increase in costs. The new approach agreed between MADE and Polti started by reviewing the “Polti Vaporella” lines, to make them a pilot example, with the aim of extending the methodology to the other product ranges. Aiming to review the production process at 360°, the dedicated team started from the components and the activities currently undertaken for the realization of the product, in order to completely revisit them, adopting the principles of the Kaizen method at the base of the Lean Production. A more performing line was developed during the test phase, with more controlled results and fewer “muda” (“times that do not create value” in Japanese), where people perform fewer movements, respecting ergonomic principles, and also reviewing the procurement activities of the production line. When the optimal methodology will be identified, investment plans to stabilize the pilot lines and progressively renew the production will begin.
