According to EHPA (European Heat Pump Association), the heat pump sales in 14 European countries (90% of the market in Europe) fell by around 5% overall in 2023 compared to 2022, from 2.77 million to 2.64 million. This reverses the trend of the last decade, where combined sales increased annually.

France, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Denmark, Austria and Switzerland all saw a sales drop last year. They increased in Portugal, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany, but this was not enough to offset the overall. Even in many countries that saw overall growth, quarterly sales declined towards the end of 2023. Market analysts expect this downwards trend to continue into 2024. As reported by EHPA, the dropping sales have been affected by the EU’s delay in supporting the sector with an action plan, the high interest rates and the changing national policy measures.
