In Turin, the competition Smart Home Hackathon

energy_homeEnergy@home, non-profit association of enterprises, and I3P, innovative enterprises incubator of the Polytechnic of Turin, launched the first Smart Home Hackathon, a competition between start-ups and young innovators on the connected home, which will be held in Turin from 21st to 23rd November 2014. In a single weekend participants will be able to give life to the prototype of their idea, thanks to experts advice and the availability of pre-commercial products which will be made available by the companies of the Energy@home association: the connected appliances of Indesit Company; the smart meter of Enel Distribuzione; the home gateway and the software platform of service of Telecom Italia; the NFC development systems of STMicroelectronics; and the devices of Flexgrid and Urmet. The event will be realized with the support of the Energy@home members (some of the members of the association are Electrolux, Whirlpool, Indesit Company and Ariston Thermo Group) and with the sponsorship of TopIX (Torino Piemonte Internet Exchange) and Siamosoci, the first web platform for investment in innovative start-ups. On Sunday 23rd, participants will present the results of their work to a jury of experts that will award the three best ideas. These ideas will be awarded with the membership free of charge to Energy@home for one year and with the access to the Development Program of TopIX. Besides, winners will be also supported by TreataBit, the program of I3P for digital start-ups. Finally, each winning idea will receive: an appliance of Electrolux or Whirlpool or Indesit Company, a pre-paid recharge for navigation in LTE 4G network of TIM, a SmartInfo device of Enel Distribuzione for the communication with the electronic meter, a domotic device of Urmet, a development kit of STMicroelectronics and one of Flexgrid. The possibility to award the winner with a paid stage offered by Altran Italia will be also evaluated.
Gabriele Elia, responsible for innovation at Telecom Italia, will open the event on November 21st; other speeches on the topic of entrepreneurship in Italy will follow. Among the speakers, there will be also Lucia Chierchia, open innovation manager at Electrolux.
