2017 is proving to be an exceptional year for the sales of semiconductors. The still temporary data of WSTS for the first 9 months indicate a sale upswing on a world scale by a good 22%. It is an unprecedented rise in the last years.
Among the 4 conventional geographical areas in sector statistics, Americas excel with 32% of growth, whereas Asia Pacific, generally ranking first, this time is only second with 22%, thus equalling the world average. However, China shows a domestic rise by 26%. More modest the growths of the EMEA area and of Japan, respectively by 17% and by 14%. Durante la scorsa estate le 5 maggiori agenzie di ricerca nel settore dei semiconduttori, Gartner, IC Insights, Mike Cowan, Semiconductor Intelligence e le stesse WSTS, avevano formulato le rispettive previsioni sull’andamento delle vendite di semiconduttori nel complesso del 2017. Si andava da una crescita del 16,0% prevista da IC Insights, ad aumento del 18,5% indicato da Semiconductor Intelligence. I risultati positivi del periodo estivo hanno spiazzato tutte le Ricerche.
Gartner prevede, nella sua ultima formulazione, una crescita finale del 19,7% a livello mondiale con un totale vendite di 411,1 miliardi di Dollari US. Una cifra finora mai realizzata nel settore.
