Electrolux is joining the global movement to pledge net zero emissions throughout our value chain, helping limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C”: CEO Jonas Samuelson joined the UN General’s Climate Action Summit in New York to sign the pledge with other business leaders. Electrolux recognizes that household appliances are fundamental to live a more sustainable life but that the use of these products also has a climate impact. The “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” pledge is organized by the United Nations to encourage business leaders from around the world to commit to Science Based Targets and net zero emissions by 2050, in line with the most ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels. In 2018, Electrolux was one of the first 100 companies in the world to establish approved Science Based Targets to reduce absolute carbon dioxide emissions from operations by 80% and emissions from products by 25% by 2025. In addition, the Electrolux company target for 2030 is to be climate neutral with zero carbon emissions from operations. An important contribution will come from Electrolux ongoing investment programs where more than USD 500 million are going to the manufacturing of cooling appliances, reducing the climate impact of factories and products. “We all have a responsibility for the future generation – Samuelson said -. It’s clear we cannot continue on the path we’re on. Electrolux has already set ambitious company targets up until 2030 to reduce our impact on the environment, but it can’t and won’t stop there. Joining other business leaders to sign this pledge, we are now making a commitment to net zero emissions throughout our value chain by 2050. This will require a faster de-carbonization of our value chain and we’ll work with other stakeholders to achieve this”.
