Paolo Falcioni, APPLiA’s Director General

As reported by APPLiA, this year to celebrate its 60th birthday, CEN-CENELEC has come up with the #TrustStandards slogan and a series of interviews to experts who have been involved in the standardisation process for a long time. Among those, Paolo Falcioni, APPLiA’s Director General, has shared some considerations on the route of standards up to today. “The benefit of standardization is often invisible, I would say”, Paolo Falcioni started. “The main one – he continued, referring to the advantages of standardization – is enhancing consumer trust in products. When a product is put on the market and it has been tested according to the standard, then consumers can be sure that the product is safe”. Over the years, standards have succeeded in gaining consumers’ trust, while ensuring products safety and best possible performance. Standards are one of the biggest assets of the EU single market. In Europe, the standardization system has done a lot to promote better economic models that always originate from better, more sustainable products. “One world, one standard is the slogan that the home appliance industry would like to use. And we see that happening more and more”, continued Paolo Falcioni and praised the evolved alignment between European and international standardization. Standardization has made a lot for our society, as it has mainly enhanced our way of life. Behind our fridge door, in the dishwasher functioning, in the blender rotating blade, there are standards.
