Italian food technology industry: export and production drop in 2020

Negative numbers for the Italian food technology producers, a sector that ranges from manufacturers of professional espresso coffee machines to slicers and meat mincers, from household items to refrigeration equipment. The data published by Anima Confindustria (Federation that represents the Italian mechanical engineering industry) show a negative trend: the forecasts for the whole of 2020 indicate a turnover that falls to 4.55 billion euros, -13.5% compared to the 5.26 billion euros recorded in 2019. Significant decreases for machines and ovens for bread and pastry (-16%), espresso coffee machines (425 million euros, -14.1%) and refrigeration equipment (900 million euros, -11.3%); the decrease for slicers, mincers and the like was more contained (-8.8%). Exports drop. The sector as a whole loses 15.7% with 2.94 billion euros in exports (3.49 billion in 2019).
