Dyson renews its cordless vacuum cleaner range by introducing de-tangle brushes and a pet grooming accessory, along with a new scratch-free brush and a crevice nozzle for tight spaces. The new de-tangling technology is designed to remove both dog and cat hair and human hair. The Polycarbonate teeth, combined with a series of nylon bristles, antistatic carbon fiber filaments and strong suction power, tackle the most stubborn tangles. To fully understand the problem, Dyson engineers and microbiologists studied different animals such as cats and dogs, but also donkeys, horses, rabbits etc. The development team combined high-speed camera footages with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to create 284 simulations of different hair fibers. This simulation replicates how different hair lengths interact with the high-speed airflow and with the virtual prototypes of the accessories, allowing for a maximization of the research and a reduction in the number of physical prototypes required. The pet grooming accessory, connected directly to the device or via a flexible tube, has 364 bristles angled at 35°. It flexes while the animal is brushed, for fast and comfortable grooming.
Besides, Dyson’s new delicate scratch-free brush features 8,100 ultra-fine, densely packed polymer filaments of polybutylene terphthalate (PBT), a material inspired by paint and makeup brushes. The bristles are tapered to 0.05mm to avoid scratching delicate surfaces. The brush has a rotating component that removes dust and debris from the bristles in a hygienic and easy way.
Finally, the new crevice nozzle bends at 22°. Several prototypes tested at different angles revealed that this is the optimal angle for cleaning the most difficult to reach places in the home or car. With a width of only 12.5 mm and a range of 254 mm, it is designed to reach and deep clean narrow spaces. The accessory also offers a secondary brush to be applied on the top of the nozzle for the most stubborn dirt. The Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner has been updated with the de-tangling technology, including the new Motorbar brush and the mini turbo de-tangle brush. Filtration has been improved from 99.97% to 99.99% efficiency at 0.3 microns.
