Introducing a new automated bonding solution that launches your process into the future

On May 29th and 30th, the 3M Adhesives & Tapes division officially celebrated the opening of the new technical area entirely dedicated to 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape in Carpiano, Milan hinterland.
This new EMEA relevant equipment, invested in 3M Italy, is in addition to the already existing equipment, available in the Bonding Process Center in Neuss – Germany.
This area is located close to 3M Headquarter in Pioltello (Milan) and will be leveraged to host customers’ events, technical workshops and future trials and tests on customer substrates. This additional asset is completing the existing test equipments available in 3M Pioltello, used to compare which 3M product meets best the customer requirements. The opening event brought together 22 participants, from 12 companies (Appliance, Automotive and General Industry), who attended the technical presentations about the newest 3M products such as 3M™ VHB™ LVO, 3M™ Screen Printable Adhesive SP 7202, 3M™ Double Coated Tissue Tapes – 56212/56215 and 56412/56415 and 3M™ Structural Acrylic adhesives. The 3M team has interacted with all customers, when several questions were asked, showing curiosity, including interest to organize with 3M further workshops to deep dive some opportunities.
The core of the two days was the live demo of the new 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape technology: 3M experts showcased in detail the features and characteristics of this technology, really unique in the market, like the stretch release combined with the immediate high strength. 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape is a new manufacturing bonding solution that brings elevated levels of automation, simplicity, and sustainability across industries. It combines the best qualities of high strength acrylic foam tape with the versatility of liquid adhesives without any of their inherent drawbacks. While liquid adhesives offer excellent versatility with the application, they can be messy, difficult to handle, increase waste, and require longer curing times. In contrast, the 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape – designed to work with the Nordson® ProBond™ System – eliminates liners and container waste while providing immediate material bonding and handling strength. These benefits help significantly streamline, simplify, and speed up production operations. 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape works effortlessly on curved surfaces, irregular shapes, and dissimilar materials, eliminating the need for unsightly fasteners. The system can manage most inline or offline bonding situations involving metals, glass, rubber, woven surfaces, and plastics, alone or in combination with each other. As a result, this technology can be used across multiple parts of the manufacturing process as a single adhesive that replaces several specialized solutions.
As solution provider 3M is usually looking to discuss with customers about their needs since the very beginning of the design phase, leveraging the FEA model approach and providing Tests on customer substrates.
