Haier strengthens its presence in South Carolina: the company has announced the intention to expand its refrigerators manufacturing operations at Camden (Kershaw County, South Carolina). Haier America will invest $72 million to create 410 new jobs in Camden within the next five years. “Haier – explains the company – broke ground on the Kershaw County Haier Industrial Park in April 1999, marking the first Chinese company to establish manufacturing operations in the U.S. Located at 50 Haier Boulevard, the facility opened its doors in March 2000 and today boasts an annual production capacity of more than 400,000 units. As a part of the expansion, Haier will invest heavily in state-of-the-art equipment and tooling, as well as construct a 250,000-square-foot addition to the existing 365,000 square-foot facility, allowing the company to increase its annual production by approximately 50 percent”. The additional area will initially support the production and assembly of Haier refrigerators but in the future it will accommodate a greater collection of whole-home solutions, including laundry and cooking appliances. The construction is anticipated to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.
