The Italian newspapers reported the news of Vittorio Merloni’s death. He was honorary president of Indesit Company and a symbol of the Italian enterprise. He began his career in 1960 working in the company founded by his father Aristide. In 1975 Merloni Elettrodomestici was founded and Vittorio Merloni was president of the company until April 29th 2010, when he has left this role to his son Andrea, becoming honorary president. In 1980 he became president of Confindustria for four years. In 1987 the company was listed on the Stock Exchange and the Merloni Group grew internationally. In 2004 the company has changed its name becoming Indesit Company and in 2014 was acquired by Whirlpool.
