Haier Europe, a major player in the home appliance industry with its Candy, Hoover and Haier brands, has taken another step forward in its sustainability plan, setting clear emissions reduction targets and pursuing a strategy based on resource efficiency and energy-saving solutions. Haier Europe’s recently published sustainability report describes the company’s investments in increased production efficiency in strategic facilities to reduce part of its direct and indirect emissions by more than 20 percent. For the coming years, Haier Europe has announced its commitment to submit an emissions reduction plan calculated through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), a global body that enables companies to set targets in line with the latest scientific discoveries.
Haier Europe has set an intermediate target of 60 per cent renewable energy at all sites controlled by the company by 2025 and intends to support part of its operations with self-generated renewable energy through the implementation of solar panels at all of its sites. Haier Europe recently launched a new Green Energy division, reflecting its ambition to also become a leading player in smart home energy solutions. A few days ago, Haier Europe and SmartDHOME (MyVirtuoso Home and Contact Pro CER platforms) signed an agreement to develop joint solutions in order to offer, to the nascent markets of Renewable Energy Communities (CERs) and Collective Self-Consumption Groups (AUCs), platforms capable of automating the operation of household appliances, air-conditioning systems and electric recharging and storage systems produced by Haier Europe based on the actual availability of energy produced by renewable plants.
