According to the website of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, there are doubts about the actual performances of the appliances in terms of energy efficiency. The European Commission, based on the checks made by some Member States, shows that there are suspicions of abuse of the EU legislation on eco-design and energy labeling by some appliance manufacturers. “In particular – said the online newspaper – they would apply in the production cheaper materials or technologies such as to degrade the performance of about 10%, aware that in the public tests an average variation of 10 percent (the technical tolerance) is allowed. In practice they would have used to their advantage a technical standard created for the measuring instruments of the market supervisory authorities in the Member States”.
